Marks Fifth Consecutive Year at London Climate Action Week, Reinforcing Its Leadership in Asia’s Climate Finance
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM, August 27, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — As climate change, energy security and geopolitical uncertainty reshape the global economy, Asia is emerging as one of the world’s most important regions for climate investment and energy transition. At London Climate Action Week 2026, Cathay Financial Holdings (Cathay FHC) announced that it has joined the 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy Coalition, becoming the world’s first and only financial institution to participate in this trailblazing initiative. The milestone reflects Cathay FHC’s long-standing commitment to advancing energy transition through sustainable finance across Asia.
The announcement was made during Cathay FHC’s fifth consecutive participation in Europe’s largest climate week, where President Chang-Ken Lee joined international leaders from governments, businesses and financial institutions to discuss how cross-sector collaboration can drive climate action in an increasingly fragmented world.
The milestone underscores Cathay FHC’s growing stature as one of Asia’s leading sustainable finance institutions, leveraging capital, strategic partnerships and innovation to accelerate the region’s transition toward a resilient, low-carbon economy.
Raising the Bar for Corporate Climate Leadership
Cathay FHC has consistently been at the forefront of sustainable finance and corporate decarbonization in Asia. In 2022, it became the first financial institution in Taiwan to join the RE100 initiative, committing to source 100% renewable electricity across its operations. By 2025, renewable electricity accounted for more than 50% of Cathay FHC’s total electricity consumption.
Beyond its own operations, Cathay FHC has become Taiwan’s largest green commercial property owner, enabling tenants to share renewable electricity through innovative energy management. Over the past year, Cathay FHC facilitated the delivery of more than 54 million kWh of renewable electricity to over 70 corporate tenants, helping businesses accelerate their renewable energy transition and collectively reduce carbon emissions.
Joining the 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy Coalition represents the next stage of Cathay FHC’s climate strategy. Unlike conventional annual renewable energy targets, the initiative encourages organizations to match every hour of electricity consumption with carbon-free energy generated on the same power grid—widely recognized as the next frontier in corporate clean electricity procurement.
Mobilizing Sustainable Finance Across Asia
“Climate change and geopolitical uncertainty have fundamentally changed the operating environment for businesses and financial institutions,” said Chang-Ken Lee, President of Cathay Financial Holdings.
“Building resilience is no longer optional. As a financial institution, our responsibility extends beyond reducing our own environmental footprint. We must also expand our positive handprint by mobilizing capital toward the industries, technologies and communities that will power Asia’s net-zero transition.”
Cathay FHC continues to expand its sustainable finance portfolio across the region through investments and financing for geothermal energy in Indonesia, onshore wind power in Vietnam, and sustainable aviation fuel projects in Singapore. Together with strategic international partnerships, these initiatives strengthen Cathay FHC’s long-term resilience while accelerating climate solutions across Asia.
Building Bankable Climate Solutions
Recognizing that many climate solutions require new financing models, Cathay FHC is integrating the strengths of its banking, insurance, investment and asset management businesses to improve the investability and bankability of sustainable projects.
One recent example is Cathay United Bank’s participation in the Green Investments Partnership (GIP) managed by Pentagreen Capital, making it the first Taiwanese bank to join the blended finance platform supporting sustainable infrastructure development across Southeast Asia.
Beyond providing capital, Cathay FHC is evolving into a long-term transition partner, working alongside clients to strengthen resilience and accelerate their net-zero transformation.
Cathay FHC also believes that a successful energy transition must be inclusive. Through its longstanding partnership with the Asian Venture Philanthropy Network (AVPN) and participation in the Asia’s Clean Energy Transition Initiative (ASCENT), together with organizations including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Cathay FHC supports the People-Centric Energy Transition Catalytic Fund, promoting a transition that benefits both people and the planet.
Connecting Global Capital with Asia’s Climate Future
As demand for climate investment continues to accelerate across Asia, financial institutions have an increasingly important role in mobilizing international capital, supporting innovation and enabling large-scale transition.
Through sustained engagement with leading international climate platforms, strategic partnerships and innovative financial solutions, Cathay FHC is solidifying its position as one of Asia’s leading climate finance institutions—connecting global ambition with regional action and mobilizing capital for the next generation of sustainable growth.
Guided by its sustainability vision, BETTER TOGETHER, Cathay FHC remains committed to mobilizing capital, strengthening partnerships and accelerating Asia’s transition toward a resilient, inclusive and net-zero future.
