Featuring a timeline of Marelli’s Electronic Control Units for leading two-wheel championships, the exhibit traces the evolution of motorsport electronics and data-driven performance 

SAITAMA, Japan, Sept. 10, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Marelli has partnered with the FIM Racing Motorcycle Museum, which opened to the public to celebrate the history of motorcycle racing, contributing a selection of its Electronic Control Units (ECUs) developed for leading two-wheel championships. As part of the permanent showcase, Marelli’s exhibit highlights the role of electronics in the evolution of modern motorcycle racing, reflecting the company’s long-standing involvement in motorsport. 

Created by the FIM – Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme in Mies, Switzerland, the Racing Motorcycle Museum (RMM) features more than 40 official motorbikes, from early racing classics to today’s bikes, and takes visitors on a journey through nine themed areas and seven disciplines: Circuit Racing, Motocross, Enduro, Rally, Trial, Track Racing and Electric. Organized around the three main pillars of “Heroes”, “Technologies” and “From Race to Road”, the exhibition also highlights breakthroughs in technology, equipment and engineering that have powered victories on track and advanced motorcycle racing.

Within the Museum, the Marelli section – titled “Everything is detectable – electronics” – displays some of the landmark Engine Control Units developed by the company over the years, illustrating how technological excellence and continuous innovation have supported different two-wheel championships and driven Marelli’s growth in motorsport.

Marelli’s exhibit features an interactive area that invites visitors to experience simulated motorcycle racing on the track. An engaging graphical visualization illustrates the relationship between the role of the control unit and the vehicle’s behavior. Additionally, a digital dashboard further enhances the experience, enabling guests to explore technical aspects of the products on display, view historic photos from different championships and delve deeper into Marelli’s story.

The ECUs showcase — organized as a technological timeline — begins in the early 2000s with the MVL4 ECU, the first to use multiple processors, opening the door to advanced features such as traction control, anti-wheelie, engine braking and electronic throttle control (Drive-by-Wire). A key milestone is the AGO-340, an ultra-compact engine and vehicle control unit with impressive control capabilities, used in MotoGP championships from 2014 to 2023. Moving on, the REX-140 is a compact and cost-effective unit with a dual-core microcontroller, especially suited for Moto2, Endurance and Special series. Its rugged off-road sibling stands alongside, the REX-120, which made a significant mark by winning the legendary Dakar Rally and numerous other championships. Finally comes the BAZ-340 ECU: evolved over more than 10 years in MotoGP and in use in the championship since 2023, it builds on the AGO-340 with enhanced computational power for advanced control strategies and high-speed communication.
