Why Herbal Wellness Should Belong to Everyone: The Story Behind The People’s Herbalist
Greensboro, United States – July 9, 2026 / ThePeople's Herbalist /
When people ask me why I started The People’s Herbalist, I usually tell them the truth: it began with watching people I love go through something hard. Serious illness has a way of pulling the ground out from under a family. You sit in waiting rooms. You Google things at two in the morning. You feel powerless. And somewhere in the middle of all that, I found my purpose, appreciating nature’s majesty and helping the people feel better in their environment.
I’m Danny Parrott, and herbalism didn’t start as a business for me. It started as a way to feel a little less helpless. The more I read, the more I studied, and the more I talked to people who had spent their lives working with herbs, the more I realised something that frustrated me. So much of this knowledge was locked behind jargon, gatekept by people who made it feel exclusive, or buried in places the average person would never think to look. Good information existed, but it wasn’t reaching the people who needed it most.
That frustration is really where The People’s Herbalist was born.
The Problem With “Wellness” Today
Walk into any store or scroll through any feed and you’ll see the word “wellness” everywhere. It’s on candles, water bottles, supplements, and expensive retreats. Somewhere along the way, wellness started to feel like a club with a cover charge. If you couldn’t afford the premium products or didn’t already speak the language, you were made to feel like it wasn’t for you.
I’ve always believed that’s backwards. Herbal wellness should be accessible to everyone, not just a select few. Plants have been part of human care for thousands of years, across every culture on earth, long before any of it got repackaged and marked up. This is ordinary, human, generational knowledge. It belongs to regular people, and my whole goal has been to hand it back to them in a way that actually makes sense.
That’s the heart of what we do. When I built The People’s Herbalist, I wasn’t trying to create another brand that talks down to people or hides behind mystery. I wanted to build something that meets you where you are.
Why Education Comes First
If there’s one thing I’d want you to take away from anything I write, it’s this: education is the foundation of informed wellness choices. You can’t make a confident decision about something you don’t understand, and you shouldn’t have to just take someone’s word for it either.
A lot of people come to herbs feeling nervous. They’ve heard mixed messages. They don’t know where to start, what’s real, or who to trust. I understand that completely, because I was there too. That’s why education sits at the centre of everything at The People’s Herbalist. Before I ever want you to buy anything, I want you to understand it.
What is this herb traditionally used for? Where does it come from? What does it actually do, and just as importantly, what does it not do? These are the questions that matter. When people understand what they’re using and why, they can approach herbal wellness with greater confidence instead of confusion.
I try to combine two things that don’t always get put together well: traditional herbal knowledge and modern education. The old wisdom is priceless, but it has to be explained clearly and honestly for today’s world. My job, as I see it, is to be the bridge between the two. To take something that can feel intimidating and make it practical, plain, and usable in real life.
Transparency Isn’t Optional
I’ll be honest with you about the wellness industry: there’s a lot of hype and not always a lot of honesty. Products get sold with big promises and small print. That never sat right with me.
Transparency and education are at the heart of everything we do at The People’s Herbalist. That means telling you what’s in a product and where it comes from. It means being straightforward about what herbs can realistically support and being just as clear about their limits. It means never pressuring you into a decision you’re not ready to make.
I’d rather you trust me because I told you the truth than because I told you what you wanted to hear. Trust, to me, is the entire foundation of this work. Once you lose it, nothing else matters. So I’ve built The People’s Herbalist to earn it, one honest conversation at a time.
What “Accessible” Really Means
When I say I want herbal wellness to be accessible, I mean a few different things at once.
I mean it should be affordable, so cost isn’t the reason someone gets left out. I mean it should be understandable, written in normal language instead of clinical terms that make people feel stupid for asking. And I mean it should be approachable, so a complete beginner feels just as welcome as someone who’s been studying plants for years.
Plenty of people feel like herbal wellness is “not for them.” Maybe they think they need a background in science, or that they’ll do something wrong, or that it’s only for a certain kind of person. I want to break that wall down. My goal is to help people better understand herbs so they can make confident decisions about their own wellness journey, whatever that journey looks like for them.
Because it is your journey. Not mine. My role isn’t to make choices for you. It’s to give you good, honest information and then trust you to decide what’s right for your life and your body. That respect matters to me. Informed consumers make better decisions, and I’d much rather you feel empowered than dependent.
The Bigger Mission
Every product we offer and every piece of education we publish comes back to the same simple idea. Plant-based wellness shouldn’t be a luxury or a secret. It should be something a working parent, a curious student, a retiree, or anyone else can learn about and use without feeling shut out.
I turned a personal passion into a mission because I saw a gap that needed filling. Some people genuinely wanted to learn but didn’t have anyone in their corner explaining it patiently and honestly. I decided I’d try to be that person, and The People’s Herbalist is how I do it at scale.
I don’t have all the answers, and I’ll never pretend to. But I promise to keep learning, keep sharing, and keep telling you the truth as best I understand it.
A Final Thought
If you’ve ever felt curious about herbs but weren’t sure where to begin, I want you to know there’s a place for you here. You don’t need to be an expert. You don’t need to already know the terms. You just need a little curiosity and someone willing to walk alongside you.
That’s what I’ve tried to build. A place where herbal wellness is explained clearly, offered honestly, and is open to everyone who wants to learn. The People’s Herbalist has always been about people first, and that will never change. Come as you are, ask your questions, and let’s figure this out together.
