DeGroote Partners founder John DeGroote, who has helped resolve significant disputes around the country for more than a decade, has been named the 2027 Dallas-Fort Worth Mediation Lawyer of the Year by The Best Lawyers in America.

Lawyer of the Year is a singular distinction awarded to only one lawyer in each practice area and geographic region. This is Mr. DeGroote’s second Lawyer of the Year selection in four years.

Mr. DeGroote mediates complex commercial and business disputes nationwide, as well as other significant matters involving individuals, businesses and governmental entities.

“I’ve been doing this long enough to know that every complex case is different — and each one has its own path to resolution,” Mr. DeGroote said. “Finding that path is what keeps this work interesting. I’m grateful that lawyers and clients continue to trust me with their cases.”

Before focusing his practice on dispute resolution, Mr. DeGroote served as chief litigation counsel to KPMG Consulting, Inc./BearingPoint, Inc., a $3 billion global consulting firm. He later became the company’s chief legal officer and ultimately its president. Earlier in his career, he represented plaintiffs and defendants in complex commercial and intellectual property disputes nationwide.

Mr. DeGroote is a past chair of the Alternative Dispute Resolution sections of both the State Bar of Texas and Dallas Bar Association, as well as the Association of Corporate Counsel’s National Litigation Committee. He is a member of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals and serves on the American Arbitration Association’s Commercial Arbitration Panel.

DeGroote Partners has also earned a Tier 1 Dallas-Fort Worth ranking for mediation in Best Law Firms. Mr. DeGroote’s career honors are highlighted by his 2021 induction into the Lawdragon 500 Hall of Fame. He also has been recognized among D Magazine’s Best Lawyers in Dallas, Texas Super Lawyers and The National Law Journal’s inaugural ADR Champions list.
